
NEW COMMITTEE FOR BRECON CHAMBER OF TRADE

Brecon Chamber of Trade & Tourism held their AGM on Friday 29th January 2021 where a new enthusiastic committee with new officers was appointed. It gives us great pleasure to announce the new Chairperson as Mr Andrew Powell of Brecon Events. Andrew also arranges and organises Brecon and Hay on Wye Food Festivals.
Also appointed were Mr Steve Morgan as Vice Chair, Mr David James as Treasurer, Mrs Dawn McIntosh as Secretary and Mrs Punch Maughan as Social Media Officer. Other local business people also on the Committee are, Mr Rhys Burgess, Mr Paul Whittaker, Mr Roger Smith, Mr Alan Roberts, Mr Nigel Kilgallon, Miss Jo Woolford and Miss Emma Laverty. The new team of Brecon Business people has vowed to focus on teamwork to help bring together all organisations in Brecon to share the same goal of helping all members navigate the tricky waters post Brexit and adjust to new ways of trading during the Covid-19 crisis.
Part of the Chamber's remit will involve focusing on local trade and the need for businesses to innovate and diversify in order to compete against online giants. The Chamber have ambitions to improve the Brecon street scene, bringing in floral and green areas to build upon the Cafe Culture of our town. Members of the Chamber intend to help Brecon businesses achieve what they need to thrive and together, make Brecon one of the best places to visit and sample some of the best products in Wales.
During the Chamber's AGM meeting it was also confirmed that all Brecon businesses will now be offered one year's free full membership. Chairman Mr Andrew Powell said "We very much look forward to working together with all local businesses in Brecon and will be holding our first committee meeting very soon. Very shorty after that we will hold our first full meeting where all Brecon businesses will be welcome to attend. We very much hope that we are able to arrange a socially distanced meeting, but if Covid-19 restrictions are still in place, we will arrange a virtual meeting online.
